BOLTON captain Chris Cockton admits his side’s achievement is yet to sink in after they passed two years unbeaten on home turf.

The Cherry and Whites stretched the record to 31 games – including friendlies and cup matches – with an assured performance against Carlisle to chalk up their second straight victory at Avenue Street of the North One West season.

“It’s not quite sunk in,” said Cockton.

“I am immensely proud of the lads and what we have achieved, but I still can’t quite believe it.

“To go all of last season unbeaten, and carry that on to the next level is a remarkable achievement.

“But reaching this goal is just a by-product of the club’s success, it’s a marker.

“Where we end up in the table is the real measure of how far we have come.”

Bolton’s amazing run has seen them win back-to-back promotions, reaching the highest level in the club’s history.

After two away defeats in their first three games in North One West, they are still finding their feet in the division, but their home form continues to provide them a platform.

That’s how it turned out on Saturday, when a strong second-half performance saw the Cherry and Whites run in four tries to claim a bonus-point win.

Their display was orchestrated by man-of-the-match Will Bate, who scored one try and stretched the visitors with his tireless running.

Gaz Pritchard, Liam Ray and James Brodie also made it over the try-line, while fly-half Mike Mills kicked 11 points.

Bate played his first ever home game for Bolton in the last match they lost at Avenue Street, and he was not about to let their proud record slip on Saturday.

He opened the scoring in the first few minutes after exchanging passes with centre Nick Smith and Mills following a flowing counter attack, with Mills adding the extras.

Bolton failed to capitalise on that promising start as both sides struggled to get a real grip of the game, with the score remaining 7-0 up to half time.

But Cockton led by example after the break, providing the killer passes for the next two Bolton tries.

He offloaded to Pritchard just shy of the try line after picking up the ball from a ruck.

Mills converted before adding another three points via a penalty.

And while Carlisle clawed a try back, the result – and the record – was secured when Cockton released Ray to run in his fourth try in as many games.

With five minutes remaining, there was just enough time for Brodie to claim the bonus-point try to round off a perfect day for the home side.

Cockton’s team now travel to fourth-placed Vale of Lune, with the captain eager to break their duck on their travels.

“What we need to do now is transfer our home form on the road,” he said.

“Vale of Lune are a big side, with former England coach Brian Ashton at the helm. But they have lost their last two matches, including one against Carlisle, so we see this as a winnable game.”

The club enjoyed a clean sweep of victories, with the seconds claiming a one-point victory, 16-15, at Caldy thirds.

The third team kept up their unbeaten start to the season with a 47-20 win against Leigh, while the fourths were handed a walkover after Kirkby Lonsdale failed to raise a team.
