JOE Mason is racing to be fit for Wanderers’ weekend’s home clash with Brentford.

The striker withdrew from the squad to face Charlton on Tuesday night with a hamstring strain but Neil Lennon is keeping his fingers crossed that he could be involved in his first home game in charge.

Mason has started a game just once since the 1-0 defeat at Wolves on September 20.

But Lennon dropped a hint that, if fit, the Cardiff loanee could be used against the Bees as the manager looks to get more goals out of his front line.

“We’re hoping he can be involved,” said the Wanderers boss.

“He’ll add a little bit of firepower to what we have already.

“We need to find a few more answers going forward and Joe might help that.”

Meanwhile, Liam Trotter could also be back in contention for the weekend’s visit of the Bees after completing 45 minutes for the development squad as they drew 2-2 Stoke City at the Macron Stadium on Monday night.

The Whites were 2-0 up in the game after goals from Chris Lester and Conor Wilkinson, but were pegged back to end level.
