A JUNIOR football coach is swapping his tracksuit and whistle for shorts and gloves to raise money for a charity.

Bolton Lads and Girls Under-12s Yellows boss Andy Frail has been working over the past couple of weeks for the Ultra White Collar Boxing event at the Macron Stadium on November 1.

The coach has never boxed before but was excited about the challenge.

He said: "It has been something totally different from anything I have done before.

"I signed up with it with a friend after they said they were going to be doing it.

"My preparations have been going well and I am really enjoying training.

"I did not know what to expect before I first turned up but the organisers have placed me at the Waterloo Street Gym and train there.

"But I have been really lucky because I have been down to the Lads and Girls club and using their facilities.

"Nick (the coach) has been sparring and working on technique.

"He has been great by putting me through my paces and teaching me some moves and get out of different situations.

"I have been only training for eight weeks now to get ready."

Frail has been working with budding Wayne Rooney's and Steven Gerrards for the past four years ever since his son needed a coach.

But he has no plans to hang up his boots just yet even if he is victorious.

He said: "It is a one-off and I am doing it to raise money for Cancer Research.

"I think it is a great cause because everyone has been affected by cancer either a family member has had it or they know someone who has.

"So I just want as many people to get behind me because I am going into the ring for charity."

But the 37-year-old insists he has been getting abuse by his young footballers.

"There has been a bit of fun with some of them have been trying to wind me up when they heard.

"They have been trying to punch me to see how I react to them."

Frail had a weigh-in last Thursday night but does not know about his opponent.

He said: "They look at your weight and also your ability before deciding who to put you against.

"Sometimes it is good to know who you are facing like the professionals because you can work on things but I will have to wait until later this week to find out.

"I am a bit nervous about the bout but that is a good thing as it keeps you on your toes.

"If you are too confident then you might be liable to make a mistake."
