CMB booked their place in the quarter-final of the Lancashire Amateur Shield after a convincing 4-2 win against Burscough Richmond.

It was a fairly-even game before Will Archer scored a superb 30-yard strike after 25 minutes.

CMB built on their good play and extended their lead 10 minutes later after some good work from Matty Carr, he fed the ball to Charlie Scholes, who rounded the keeper and slotted the ball away at a very tight angle.

In the second half it was more of the same with CMB's back three being solid with the impressive Gary Crompton taking charge.

Callum Yearsley was a constant threat down the right and put a cross in which Scholes got his second with a neat finish.

Burscough pulled one goal back from the spot before Archer made it 4-1 with 15 minutes to go.

But it was Burscough who had the final say with a 20-yard strike giving the keeper no chance.

Manager Phil Roberts said: "I asked for a response from the team after last week's shambles (losing 2-1 to Barrow Wanderers) and I certainly got it.

"Burscough are a good side and we beat them in every aspect of the game."

Joining the Chew Moor team in the last eight is West Lancashire side Tempest United after their 1-0 victory against Gregorians.

Manchester League champions Hindsford were kicking themselves after losing away to West Lancs League Premier Division side Coppull United.

The Squires Lane men, who have specifically targeted the cup competitions this season, looked well on the way to the next round when they led 2-0 at half time. But after being pegged back to 2-2 they lost 5-4 on penalties – Liam Morrison missing the first spot-kick.

“I can’t put it down to Liam that we lost, it was the whole team,” said manager Barry Massey.

“We had it in our own hands and threw it away. We were all over the place in the second half.

“A few players were off the mark and it cost us.”

Connor Payne put Hindsford ahead with a sensational volley, which he hooked over his shoulder – but was injured soon after and was replaced by Jack Valentine, who doubled the lead straight after going on.

“I wanted to win this cup, but I had a feeling before the game it wasn’t going to be our day and even 2-0 up at half time I wasn't confident,” Massey added.
