A BITING cold wind greeted us as we arrived at the Macron for the battle of the Wanderers.

In the warmth of the Fanzone, we wondered which team would turn up, the Anfield heroes or the New York Stadium blues.

With players going down like ninepins, it was anybody’s guess. Reinforcements were announced in the form of Adam Le Fondre and Rochino, while Zach Clough had been discharged from the casualty station and sent back up the line.

Pre-match entertainment was the talented Distraction with a couple of their self-penned songs, followed by former defensive star, Simon Coleman who popped in for a chat.

We started slightly better than at Rotherham, lasting nearly three minutes this time before going behind to a superbly taken goal from Nouha Dicko.

We are building a reputation for conceding early these days. But we battled back as Zach Clough took command and fired a brilliant free- kick past Carl Ikeme. Minutes later, he tucked away another one to put us in the lead.

Ominously, Darren Pratley pulled up early in the second half and with our luck with injuries, it looks like he’ll be missing for a few weeks. The game seemed to die out after that, until James Henry hit a fantastic 30-yard screamer to level things in the last minute of added time.

It’s difficult to assess the Wanderers at the moment as we are down to bare bones with the resources we have got.

Neil Lennon has already told John McGinlay to have his boots "dubbined", ready for the call.

He’s doing his best to sort things out with unwanted players and youngsters going out on loan or leaving, to make room for incoming players.

It’s going to be tough and the play-offs look like a distant dream but a direct assault on promotion next season is on the cards.

Meanwhile, let’s get together and show Liverpool the famous Bolton fighting spirit again.
