BOLTON Schools Under-14s pulled off a stunning victory to inflict a first defeat of the season on Chester and reach the final of the ESFA North West Woodward Cup.

The Bolton boys came from a goal down to win 3-2 away from home against the side who lead the Greater Manchester Schools League and had won every game of the season up until Saturday.

"Chester are top of the league and won every game so it was obviously a corking win for us," said manager Vinny Baldwin.

"They are strong opposition but we played brilliantly right throughout the side."

Bolton bounced back from conceding a 12th-minute opener with Teddy Moulden lashing home a powerful equaliser from the edge of the box 13 minutes later.

Moulden, (Thornleigh High School), who battled manfully in midfield throughout, missed a penalty six minutes after half time after Jamie Ramwell (St Joseph's) had been fouled.

Bolton went ahead on 50 minutes with another rocket shot from 20 yards, this time by Callum Birchall of St Joseph's.

It was 3-1 three minutes later when Ramwell floated over a free kick which was met with a powerful header by Declan Baldwin (Rivington and Blackrod).

Chester reduced the deficit on 55 minutes but Bolton held out for the last 15 minutes with excellent resistance, particularly by the back four of Jacob Ridings (St James'), Adam Cormican (Harper Green), Luke Harrison (Rivington and Blackrod) and George Mikolajewski (Canon Slade).

Bolton Under-15s also came from behind to win a friendly against Bury.

A 20th-minute opener by the home side was cancelled out when Keelan McCabe (St Joseph's) converted a low cross by Jobi Patel (Rivington and Blackrod).

Bury had the better of the first half before Daryl Thomas and Will Pacey's team took charge after the break with striker Matty Chapman (Sharples) and winger Patel constant threats.

Joe Pennington (Thornleigh) scored the winner when he followed up his own shot which had been saved and slotted home the rebound on the hour following a corner by Saul Guffogg (Rivington and Blackrod).
