OLD Boltonians boss Steve Eccleshare says his team are relishing the upcoming month ahead as they battle for a league and cup double.

They find themselves in second place in the Premier Division, just a point behind leaders Mostonians with three games in hands, while last weekend they confirmed their place in the third round of the First XI Cup.

Their match on Saturday against Rochdale St Clements was postponed, adding to Old Bolt's already congested fixture list, but that is something Eccleshare is not too worried about.

“The way the fixtures fall, playing every Saturday and Wednesday, it isn’t a problem for us,” he said.

“We've got a big squad and we train regularly so we are prepared for what lies ahead.

“The players are excited for all the matches, and I think it will help us build some momentum.

“We will just take it game by game and knock the fixtures off, but if we keep playing like we have been all season then we should be confident.

“We’ve brought in James Edmondson from Castle Hill as well so, in terms of the squad, we can easily cope with the build-up of games.”

They will be hoping for better weather next Saturday as they host Howe Bridge Mills, who are still looking for points in their fight to beat the drop.

Little Lever are also on the hunt for vital points as they look to secure their status as a top division side for next season.

Their scheduled match at fellow strugglers Old Blackburnians was set to be one of the games of the weekend, with the hosts second bottom, just two points behind Little Lever.

But as was the case across the rest of the league, the weather forced a postponement.

Manager Lee Buckley was disappointed they could not get the match on, as he had seen his team win four of their last five league matches.

“We were gutted we couldn't play,” he said.

“We’ve been in great form and we were going there with confidence – the lads were so up for it.

“The pitch was only bad in one area, so we thought maybe we could get it on, but it wasn't to be.

“Next week’s match now away at Prestwich is a must win, and if we do it leaves us with a great chance of staying up, so again we go into that game with real confidence.”

Two wins from their final two games will guarantee safety for Buckley’s team and with Prestwich a place below them in the league, they will fancy their chances of securing those vital six victories.

Elsewhere, Horwich Victoria will have to find another date for their relegation battle with Prestwich, while Castle Hill were forced to postpone their match at home to Mostonians.
