BOLTON Metro Swim Squad hosted their Spring Sprint Meet at the Jason Kenny Leisure Centre last Saturday.

The event was a huge success with a record number of swimmers and a record number of Squads and Clubs attending.

There was a great atmosphere poolside and the event was watched by a packed viewing gallery.

Bolton Metro Squad had a fantastic meet, winning a number of events and despite the greater competition ended the day with a record total of 114 medals, made up of 42 gold, 37 silver and 35 bronze.

This is a great achievement given the amount and standard of the competition from other clubs.

Metro swimmer Jack Morris (13) won the Junior Boys trophy with cache of three gold, three silver and one bronze medal, Gabriel Glynn (11) repeated his success from the Autumn Meet swimming in the 11-year-old category with a haul of six gold medals.

Other notable winners were: Anna Doughty (open), Tom Gibbs (open) Stephen Hancock (14) three gold, one silver and one bronze, Jessie Harper (14) took home three gold medals.

Tahira Collins (11) and Eve Corrigan (11) were double gold medallists.

There were numerous personal bests throughout the Metro squad with many of the younger swimmers competing for the very first time.

Special mention must go to Lucy Dixon (9) who won gold and two bronze medals in her very first gala.

Congratulations also go to The Top Visiting Team who were City of Salford.

The event was fantastically organised by Nick Doughty and Sam Barclay and went off without a hitch.

Doughty and Barclay were ably assisted by a large number of volunteers and officials many who were connected to Metro and many who were not.

The coaching team of Emma Swanwick, Mike Robinson and Carol Stevens were delighted with the performance of all the swimmers, and were particularly pleased with the younger swimmers.

Emma said:“After many months of training it is very pleasing for our new squad members to see that all the hard work is paying off.

"The gala is a great opportunity to benchmark their performance against other regional swimmers.

"It is also a rare opportunity for the younger swimmers to watch our elite swimmers perform and can only motivate them further”.

Bolton Metro chairman Elliott Bostock was delighted with the success of the gala.

He said: “After all the hard work by our committee, swimmers, parents and volunteers I am delighted the gala was such a success.

"We have had considerable positive feedback from the other clubs who competed.

"We look forward to hosting another event later in the year as the gala is great fun and also provides much needed income.

"We constantly battle to raise funds for the club and would be delighted to speak to any Bolton business who would like to become involved in sponsorship.”
