NICKY Hunt hopes his former team-mate Kevin Davies will get another crack at the Championship next season.

Preston North End take on Swindon Town in the play-off final at Wembley tomorrow afternoon looking to book their place alongside Wanderers in the second tier.

Hunt believes Simon Grayson’s side will have too much on the day and hopes promotion will mean an extended stay for Davies at Deepdale, and perhaps a chance to face the Whites for the first time since his controversial departure two years ago.

“I still play golf with him from time to time and keep in touch,” said Hunt, at the launch of the MBNA North West Football Awards.

“It would be great for him to go up. I know he wants to play on for another year, he’s been given the incentive at Preston, and it’d be great to see him get another crack at the Championship.

“They were unlucky to only make the play-offs in the end but personally, I think they’ll go up.”

Hunt is looking for a new club after turning down the chance to stay at Accrington Stanley next season.

The former England Under-21 star, who made more than 150 appearances for Wanderers between 2000-2009, still keeps an eye out for results at the Macron Stadium.

And while he has shared in the fans’ disappointment at the club’s fortunes in the last few years, he has backed Neil Lennon to stablise the Whites this term.

“Bolton is what it is at the moment,” he said. “They are massively in debt and it’s a shame for everyone involved at the minute.

“The new manager came in and I think he’s done a really good job. He just needs to be allowed to bring in his own players and maybe move a few on.

“That would be great for the club. I think they’ll do alright next season. I don’t necessary think they’ll get promoted but I think they’ll do alright.”
