LEFT-ARM spinner Stephen Parry is hoping for a loan move away from Emirates Old Trafford in a bid to save his Lancashire career.

The former Radcliffe junior, who played for England in one-day and Twenty20 cricket at the start of last year, has slipped down the pecking order at the Red Rose club for LV= County Championship cricket.

He started the season as the likely option should Ashley Giles want to pick a second spinner alongside fellow left-armer Simon Kerrigan.

But new cricket director and head coach Giles, who selected Parry for England during his time as national coach, has opted for off-spinner Arron Lilley instead to give his attack variation.

Parry is still an integral part of Lancashire’s Twenty20 team, but the 29-year-old has only played nine first-class matches since debuting against Durham University in 2007.

A loan move has been discussed between player and coach, with Parry saying: “The loan move is something I’m looking at because I want to progress as a cricketer.

“You can come back and play one-day cricket here and Championship cricket at another club. It is just about finding the right fit really.

“It would be nice to get something at the back end of the season because it will give me some good cricket to play in.

“It is all open. If the right opportunity comes along for a loan, it is only going to make me a better cricketer. If I play another 10 years at the club, it is only going to make me better, so it’s a win-win situation.

“I’m disappointed. I have had times in my career when they have played two spinners and when I have played, it hasn't been a spinning wicket. But I have still held my own and done well.

“I’m just a little bit frustrated in regards of never getting the chance to play when it spins. I’m disappointed because I have worked really hard, and my game is in a really good place.”

Despite his disappointment, Parry understands why Lilley has played ahead of him for the last three home Championship matches.

“You have a left-arm seamer (James Faulkner) making rough for the off-spinner, so it is the right decision to play him,” he added.

“We have a lot of competition here, but I’m really happy Arron has taken his chance. He is putting pressure on Keggsy now.”
