AS Eidur Gudjohnsen waved goodbye to the Macron yesterday, Real Madrid prospect Derik Osede edged ever-closer to signing for Wanderers.

Chinese news agencies reported yesterday afternoon that Gudjohnsen had signed a short-term contract with Super League side Shijiazhuang Ever Bright.

The deal will see the 36-year-old Icelander compete until November, after which sources close to the player suggest he could return to England to seek regular football in preparation for next summer’s Euro Championships.

A return to Bolton looks highly unlikely, however, after the collapse of contract talks in recent weeks left both parties disappointed.

But while the door closed on Gudjohnsen’s prestigious Bolton career, it appears to have opened for defender Osede, who remains in talks with the club.

The Spain Under-21 international was officially released at Real’s feeder club Castilla yesterday, after which he tweeted from his official account: “After 13 years at Real Madrid, it is time to say goodbye but I will fight to make it a ‘soon’.

“I have not signed anything with any club but my future is close to be resolved (sic). I will keep you informed.

“I am very excited and eager to start the ball rolling.”

Osede has been linked with a number of Premier League and Championship clubs this summer including Southampton, Watford, Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Burnley.

Wanderers kept silent on the progress of talks with Osede yesterday but it is understood that Neil Lennon wants them resolved quickly, so he can link up with the squad in Austria.

With speculation over his own future – and the vacant position at Leicester – now dying down, the Whites boss will fly out tomorrow to Hartberg in the South East of the country, not far away from the Hungarian border.

Training sessions will be held in Pöllau, around half an hour from the team hotel, while games against Sturm Graz and SC Paderborn will be played nearer to the city of Graz.

Meanwhile, former Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka has been named player-manager of Mumbai City.

The Frenchman played for the Indian Super League side last season under another ex-Wanderer, Peter Reid.

"He impressed us all with his tactical knowledge and excellent motivational skills," said Mumbai City co-owner and Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor.

Anelka has filled a player-coach role before during a season spent at Chinese club at Shanghai Shenhua in 2012.
