THE future of the athletics in Bolton looks bright if any of these youngster performances are anything to go by.

There were 63 athletes in action during the Friday Night Sprints and Jumps meeting at Leverhulme Park event which was organised by Bolton United Harriers and Athletic's Club.

The event was held for talented sportstar from six-years-old up to Under 15 level.

Bolton boys athletes Hakeem Ogunneye (Under 13) and Luke Greenhalgh (Under 11) took the honours winning golds in all their three events.

Meanwhile, u9s boy Edan Penketh did well winning two golds and a silver.

In the girls events, u15s Sale Harrier Ruka Shonibare took all three golds with a brilliant display out performing Bolton's Taiwo Taiwo in two classic track sprints. Ruka also took gold in the Long Jump.

A spokesman for the club said: "This all bodes well for Bolton Harriers in the coming weeks with both the Under17/20 and the Under 13/15 teams looking well set for promotion in their age categories of the Youth Development League.

"Both teams having vital final league meetings during July.

"The standard of the athletes competing was great."
