THE number 13 may be unlucky for some but not Westhoughton Lions Under-10s as that is the number of tries they scored in a 66-12 win against Shevington Sharks.

Tony Grindley's side started well with a good defensive set followed by birthday boy Cooper Bainbridge crossing in the corner.

The Lions soaked up some pressure before a great passing move led to a try by Kieran Cooke with Sammy Croughan adding the extras.

Another two quickfire tries were scored by Dan White with one being a barnstorming forwards run, and the second being some smart play from dummy half to crash over the line.

Zak Taylor and Sam Dixon added the conversions.

While the Lions were going very well in attack it was in defence where they were strongest holding their line well and putting in some great hits in while controlling the ruck.

The half ended as it started with the Lions scoring a superb try from a flowing passing move from right to left with Zak Taylor breezing in on the edge, Jacob Lovett added the two to end the half with the score Westhoughton Lions 28-0 Shevington Sharks.

Despite a promising first half, the Lions knew they would have to back their hard work up after the interval.

The signs were good early on as Jack Lee scored a great try in the corner to get the scoreboard ticking over again, Lee also added the extras for a perfect start for the Lions.

Shevington then sprung a great attack on the Lions and the scramble defence was powerless in stopping a great Shevington try from being scored.

The Lions hit back straight away after a well structured set Ben Grindley-Roberts found some space in the Shevington line to score his first of the game with Dan White adding extra two points.

Jacob Lovett touched down after a typical barnstorming run through the middle catching out the Shevington defence.

That was closely followed by a try by Kieran Cooke with a great break on the right edge, Cooke had the speed and the awareness to beat the chasing Shevington defenders to score under the posts with Josh Thompson adding the extras.

At no point did Shevington let their heads drop and it they would score another cracking try, this time taking advantage of some lazy defence in the middle.

Man-of-the-match Dan White would quickly get the Lions rolling once more with a great 30-yard breakaway try showing great pace and power on his way to the line.

With Shevington chasing the game they started to be very adventurous with the ball and when a loose pass found its way into Ben Grindley-Roberts hands and he raced away from the chasing defence to score his second of the game.

The Lions would also have the last say when Zak Taylor took the ball on the edge after some great hands on the inside and stepped inside to score a great try to close the game, cooper added the two to give us a final score of 66-12.
