WANDERERS' development squad wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win at Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Chris Cvetko and Will Abbotts.

Under-18s coach David Lee took charge of a youthful Whites side and started with 19-year-old trialist Solomon Sambou, who left Fulham this summer after seven years in the Cottagers' academy set-up.

The Gambia-born midfielder, who scored in last year's FA Youth Cup final defeat to Chelsea, had come off the bench for Wanderers U21s in the weekend win at Southport.

Wanderers were ahead early at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium when, after just six minutes, they were awarded a penalty.

Cvetko stepped up to send home-stopper Grant Shenton the wrong way and coolly score in the bottom corner.

Soon after Abbotts doubled the visitors' advantage after breaking down the left to race into the box and fire home from an acute angle at the near post.

Wanderers had chances to extend their lead but were pegged back before the break when Grant Spencer scored for Rammy from the penalty spot to make it 2-1.

A host of substitutions after the interval disrupted the flow of the game and chances were at a premium for either side as it ended 2-1 to the Whites.

It meant the U21s ended their preparations with just one defeat from 10 outings.

Iain Brunskill's side kick off their league campaign on Monday when they host Bristol City at the Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland, kick off 7pm.
