NEIL Lennon is ready to pounce if a strike target becomes available today.

The summer transfer window closes at 6pm this evening and the Wanderers boss is refusing to rule out making a late signing despite having hardly any funds at his disposal.

The Whites will most likely have to sell or loan out a player before being able to bring one in – which puts them at the mercy of the market.

But after watching his side draw a blank in five of their first six games in league and cup, Lennon knows exactly where his side’s problems lie.

“We definitely need another forward, it’s as simple as that,” he told The Bolton News. “Our approach play in general has been very good but we’re lacking conviction in the final third.

“I need more out of Zach Clough, Gary Madine and Wellington Silva if we’re going to start winning games.

“Will someone have to go out to bring someone in? Well, that’s probably going to have to be the case.

“But I’d certainly hope we could do something.”

Wanderers may have to force the issue with a few of their fringe players who have been made available for loan.

The likes of Medo Kamara, Andy Kellett, Quade Taylor and Hayden White could be allowed out, which may free up enough funds to bring in a player until the next window.

But if that doesn’t happen, it is most likely going to be a quiet old day at the Macron Stadium.

Lennon is confident his side have made some progress in a defensive sense this season but is desperate for one of his front men to step up and hit a vein of scoring form.

“Over the last five games I think there has been an improvement – but we need to put some goals in there,” he said. “I need someone who’s going to do that for me.

“The lads at the back have played very well but unless you score when you are on top you leave yourselves open, and that has been the case too often already this season.”

Wanderers travel to Motherwell at the end of the week, which could give Lennon the chance to cast his eye over Spanish midfielder Andrea Orlandi, who trained with the club at the end of last week.

It is understood another un-named trialist was also present on Friday.
