WESTHOUGHTON Lions Under-10s just seem to get better with age as they continued their impressive form this season with lots .

The Lions travelled to a fun festival at Golborne which proved to be a tough morning of rugby league against four good young sides.

First up, they took on Chorley Panthers and started brightly with a try on the first set by Kieran Cooke.

It wasn't long before they added to those four points after Sam Dixon scored a classy try from first receiver to double the Lions tally and Dan White added the extras.

Excellent defending paid dividends as they got some good field postion and after a slick passing move the Lions scored on the edge through Josh Thompson while Ben Grindley-Roberts adding the extra two.

Chorley were still well in the game and got on the scoresheet after a powerful run.

But the final points of the game would go to the Lions through Zak Taylor after a great scoot from dummy half caught the defence napping for the Lions fourth try of the game, Cooper Bainbridge added the extras to make it 22-6.

In the second game they had a bruising encounter with Woolston Greens.

Once again the Lions would start very well with good controlled sets leading to good field position, and once more Sam Dixon raced away to score the opening try.

For the next few minutes, both teams cancelled each other out but Josh Thompson went in at the corner for a great four pointer and he converted his own try to hand the Lions a 10-point lead.

The Lions final try of the game was a great solo effort from Ben Grindley-Roberts on his 100th appearance for the club, finding a gap on the left edge he darted into the space before racing away to score under the posts to close the game 14-0.

Meanwhile the third game was a cracking tie with Hindley.

Both sides had been defending well in their early matches and it was no surprise that the early exchanges were fierce and competitive.

An error deep in their own territory the Lions just didn't have enough to keep out a tough running Hindley, leading to the Lions going six points behind.

The Lions had plenty of chances to peg Hindley back but their inability to complete sets would be their downfall and they lost 6-0.

The final game against Golborne proved to be a real cracker.

A powerful run by Cooper Bainbridge set the ball rolling with a great solo drive to the line.

The Lions knew the lead would prove difficult to hold. Eventually the pressure would tell with Golborne scoring a superb try in the corner to take a 6-4 lead heading into the final minutes.

The next score would be key and thankfully it would go to the Lions as the player of the tournament Jacob Lovett crashed onto the ball on the half way line and broke through three tacklers before racing away to score a super solo try.

Kieran added the extras just as the ref blew for full-time giving us a final score of 10-6 in favour of the Lions.
