TYRELL Palmer netted a brace as Wanderers Under-18s got back to winning ways in a feisty encounter at Hull City on Saturday.

The forward, who turned 18 last week, scored both goals in a 2-1 victory but was sent off 10 minutes from time.

The 10 men held on, though, to record a sixth win of the U18 Professional Development League 2 campaign.

David Lee's side went into the game off the back of a first defeat in five games at home to Coventry three days earlier.

But they began brightly and after Matthew Fearnley had seen a goal chalked off for offside, the Whites took the lead just before half time when Palmer got on the end of a good Jack Everest cross and after seeing his initial shot blocked, he made no mistake at the second attempt.

The hosts responded to the setback and Whites stopper Will Jaaskelainen had to be on top form to keep the visitors in the lead at the midway point.

After the interval, Wanderers controlled the game and Palmer chased a clearance to outpace the Tigers' back line and slide the ball underneath Hull stopper Erik Bukran to double the advantage on the hour mark.

But he saw red on 80 minutes after striking out at Tigers skipper Ellis Barkworth after a tussle near the touchline.

But the Whites held on despite a consolation for the hosts in stoppage time through Ben Hinchcliffe.

After a busy week of three games in eight days, coach Lee was pleased with his team's efforts on Humberside.

He told The Bolton News: "After a three-game week the players showed great determination and character to win – particularly after losing Palmer.

"Overall, it was a great learning curve again.

"Playing against physically dominant opponents is part of this league and it is something the players are now adjusting to."

The U18s are back on home soil on Saturday when Sheffield United visit the Eddie Davies Academy.
