TIM Barrow and Jamie Allen won a dramatic last match to earn a draw for DL Farnworth A against GMT in the Bolton Badminton League B Section.

Fifth-placed GMT were in front for most of the game but Farnworth, two places above them, refused to lie down and kept fighting back.

Farnworth were on the front foot early on, their second couple Georgina Ryding and Jamie Allen winning the first of the mixed games 21-19, 21-14, against Lesley Bates and Zayn Shah.

The second pair of games was shared when GMT’s second couple Wendy Jones and Daniel Wong won the first of their games against Laura Bradley and Howard Ryding 21-19 before losing the second 21-13.

GMT then started to take control, Karin Hodgin and Gunjan Parikh beating Janette Owen and Tim Barrow 21-14, 21-17 in the third couples' clash.

The first couples’ match the games were shared, Bates and Shah taking the first for GMT 21-11, and Bradley and Ryding winning the second 21-18.

GMT’s Jones and Wong won the first of the second couples' contests 21-19 before Ryding and Allen took the second 21-16.

Going into the level doubles with 5-5 on the board the first pair of ladies’ games were shared, GMT's Hodgin and Bates against putting their side ahead with the first 21-17 and Owen and Bradley pulling Farnworth back into contention with the second 21-15.

GMT edged back in front in the first pair of men’s games when Parikh and Shah won 22-20, but Farnworth’s Barrow and Ryding reciprocated in an equally nail-biting game which they clinched 22-20.

GMT’s Hodgin and Jones put their side two games ahead when they beat Owen and Ryding 21-19, 21-14 in the ladies' games to ensure a least a draw for their team.

The determined Farnworth pair of Barrow and Allen then claimed a point for their team when they beat Parikh and Wong 21-17, 24-22 in a nail-biting finale.

There was another draw which went to the last match in D Section when third-placed Westhoughton E hosted sixth-placed Smithills.

The first two games of mixed were shared when Chris Everitt and Barry Hilton, Smithills’ second couple, won the first 21-12 and Gill Crompton and Geoff Everitt claimed the second for Westhoughton 21-12.

Smithills first pair of Lorraine Shepherd and Malcolm took control in the second set of mixed, winning both their games 21-11, 21-13, against Louise Vernon and Darren Hough.

The third couples shared their games, Bethany Hughes and Dave Edwards taking the first for Westhoughton 21-18 and Diane Leigh and Tony Sames winning the second 21-17.

When the first couples met Westhoughton’s Crompton and Everitt won both their games against Shepherd and Rolfe 21-10, 21-19.

The second couples shared their games, Smithills Everett and Hilton winning the first 21-15, and Vernon and Hough taking the second 21-17.

Smithills’ Leigh and Shepherd won their ladies’ games comfortably 21-9, 21-13, against Hughes and Crompton.

However, Westhoughton’s Edwards and Everitt dug deep to win the first pair of men’s games, the first 21-10 and the second 23-21 against Sames and Rolfe.

Smithills Leigh and Everitt then won their ladies' games against Hughes and Vernon 21-18, 21-14 to put their team in a draw position.

In the final two games of the match Westhoughton’s Edwards and Hough meant business and claimed both games 21-10, 21-17 against Sames and Hilton to earn the draw.
