NEIL Lennon has held up his hands and admitted: “I’ve got a problem at right-back.”

The Wanderers boss has used four different players on the right side of his defence this season – coming under fire of late for using centre-halves Prince-Desire Gouano and Derik Osede instead of specialists Lawrie Wilson or Francesco Pisano.

Lennon is struggling to find consistency in his back four and was critical of some of his side’s defending in the 2-0 defeat to Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.

More changes look likely as Wanderers welcome Bristol City to the Macron Stadium tomorrow but while the manager has plenty of options, he is unable to find a formula he is happy with.

“I need some consistency,” he told The Bolton News. “I don’t want to keep chopping and changing my back four but looking at what I saw against Ipswich it just wasn’t good enough.

“I have got a problem at right-back at the minute. It wasn’t the kind of game I wanted to play Pisano – it was going to be physical and we needed a good head at the back.

“Lawrie (Wilson) is just out of favour. He’s had his ups and downs.

“I brought Prince off and Derik has been playing there but he’s been playing nowhere near good enough for my liking.”

Lennon excluded David Wheater and Jose Manuel Casado from a defensive dressing down at Portman Road. But they were the exception in a generally poor performance that had the manager demanding immediate improvement from his side.

“We keep playing like that, especially defending like that and it will be a very long, hard season,” he added.

Lennon has yet to name an unchanged line-up this term and is likely to against shuffle his pack as a few more options come back from injury.

“Shola Ameobi should be okay for Saturday,” he explained. “He jarred his knee at Preston and there was a little bit of swelling behind it.

Mark Davies had an Achilles problem. He was doing a fitness test when I did the press conference and said he had a chance for Ipswich, but he was still feeling a little pinch in the Achilles. You can’t put an injection in that so we had to give him a few more days’ rest.”
