WANDERERS chief executive Dean Holdsworth has spoken of his delight at Rob Holding's role in helping England to an historic Toulon Tournament win.

The defender joined up with the national side's under-21 squad for the competition, and helped the Young Lions to a fifth win, the country's first since 1994.

And Whites co-owner Holdsworth says the experience will stand the club's prize asset in good stead.

Holding made his debut in an emphatic 7-1 victory over Guinea and earned a second cap in Friday's 1-0 win against Japan. Although he did not make the team for the final the 20-year-old – thought to be on the radar of a handful of Premier League clubs this summer – will benefit from his first taste of international football.

That is something that will not be lost on Holdsworth, who scored on his sole appearance in the England B team in 1994, when considering any offers coming in for the club's player of the season.

"I am delighted for Rob Holding, to be part of the squad that has won the Toulon Tournament will be a great asset to him in terms of experience and culture," he said.

"This is the start of a great career, he can use this as a catalyst for the next part of his life.

"I'm sure the Bolton fans and staff are all very proud to see him win and wear the England shirt."

Chelsea's Lewis Baker and Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored the goals in Sunday's 2-1 win over France.

Baker, the tournament's leading goalscorer with four, headed Gareth Southgate's side into an early lead and Loftus-Cheek, the player of the tournament, doubled the advantage. Abdou Diallo's strike for France proved mere consolation as England saw out the victory.
