Wanderers return to Wembley after a 12-year wait to take on Plymouth in the Papa Johns Trophy final.

Ian Evatt’s men reached the final following a 2-0 win against Accrington Stanley at the Wham Stadium thanks to goals from Elias Kachunga and Aaron Morley.

The Whites also overcame Barrow, Manchester United Under-21s and Portsmouth in the knockout rounds after finishing top of Group B.

Meanwhile, the Pilgrims beat Cheltenham on penalties in the semi-final following a 1-1 draw at Home Park, with goalkeeper Callum Burton saving three spot kicks in a row.

Wanderers won the competition in 1989 following a memorable 4-1 victory against Torquay at Wembley. Under-18s manager Julian Darby was on target against the Gulls that day.

When does the game take place?

The highly anticipated final takes place on Sunday, April 2 (3pm). The Whites have already sold more than 33,000 tickets for the fixture.

The points were shared when Wanderers faced Plymouth at the UniBol earlier this year following a goalless draw.

Evatt’s men were beaten 2-0 at Home Park back in August after goals from Niall Ennis and Ryan Hardie.
