In the final race of the cross-country season last weekend, Paul Edwards was the first male Lostock AC runner home.

He completed the muddy laps of Heaton Park in an impressive 44mins 35secs.

The next to finish the 10k was James Jackson, in 50:38, followed by Mark Shuttleworth (52:58), Andy Laycock (56:29) and Greg Kilshaw (1:00:55).

The ladies race is slightly shorter course covering 5.5 miles, and Heather Soden was the first across the finish line in an awesome 51:53, ahead of Gill Caldwell, who finished in 1:04:11. Both Soden and Caldwell had a fantastic season - both securing second in their age categories in this race and for the cross-county season.

Elsewhere, Rachel Stevens completed the Great North West Half-Marathon in Blackpool.

Participants are usually faced with storms and high winds, however, the 2024 race was a pleasant surprise and runners were welcomed by a dry and sunny February day.

The race route commences at Wilton Promenade, starting with runners heading along to Middle Walk, then south towards the North Pier and Blackpool Tower.

It then drops down to the Lower Walk, heading north. Runners repeat this loop and then continue to head north along the Lower Walk.

When runners reach Anchorsholme Park, they again join the Middle Walk heading towards Blackpool centre. When runners reach Glynn Square, it is another loop towards Anchorsholme Park and back towards the centre for a fast finish.

This is a very flat and rapid race along the coast with beautiful views of the sea, and Stevens had a fantastic race as she completed the half-marathon in 2:11:48.

Parkrun results: Haigh Woodland - Chris Baker 24:03, volunteer - Karen Taylor; Bolton - Rachel Hancock 27:39; Pennington Flash - Hazel Hadfield 24:52 (first in age category).
