Josh Sheehan and Wales take on Finland in Cardiff tonight looking to take a big step towards qualification for Euro 2024.

The Wanderers midfielder is part of Rob Page’s squad preparing for their semi-final in Cardiff and a shot at either Estonia or Poland in Tuesday’s final.

Sheehan’s excellent club form this season has brought him back into the international picture after nearly a year out injured after knee surgery.

He currently has five caps and will be hoping to play some part as the Welsh seek to return to another major tournament.

The team was given a rousing pre-game speech in their hotel last night by Hollywood actor Rhys Ifans – star of Notting Hill and House of the Dragon – and will be backed by a sold-out crowd in the capital.

A tough group containing Netherlands, Austria and France await the winner of Tuesday’s play-off final but manager Rob Page says players in the camp have not shown too many signs of nervousness despite what is riding on the outcome.

He said: “It’s quite a relaxed environment and that’s not because we’re blasé about it or taking things for granted. We’re in good form at this moment in time, most of the squad are out playing football for their clubs, training has been excellent.

"We have gone through similar experiences with the pressure of the play-off situations against Austria and Ukraine, and the difficulty surrounding that. We are all quite relaxed but not underestimating the challenge. There’s everything to play for but we’re fully prepared for it.”

Gethin Jones was an unused substitute as Australia beat Lebanon in Parramatta to stay top of their qualification table with a 100 per cent record from three games.

Former Bolton transfer target Keanu Baccus opened the scoring with a delightful chip five minutes in before Kye Rowles doubled the lead shortly after half time.

The Socceroos can guarantee progression from the group with another win against the same opponents on Tuesday, the game having been moved from the Middle East to Canberra for safety reasons.

Jones then faces a 10,000 mile flight back home to join up with the team before their next League One game against Stevenage.
